I’m fascinated by the definitions that we have for ourselves, that we hold onto so tightly despite how elusive they are. These definitions make us comfortable. I am interested in how we, as humans, relate to each other. How we relate to materials. Perception. Assumption. Tradition. Nostalgia. Hermeneutics. Semantics. Phenomenology. And how they contribute to our forming our identity.

Each one of us may exist as rich and poor, black and white, southern and northern simultaneously. We each exemplify the infinite nuances from our genetics and experiences blended with the image our environment projects upon us. Therefore, the idea of even attempting to define an identity becomes futile.

Through my choice of materials or imagery, I attempt to examine this area between comfort zones. The cathartic repetition of my processes reclaims the physical and psychological power that has been masquerading through our community. The re-contextualizing of these materials ultimately manipulates their identity. I want my installations to evoke how we, as humans, are equally complicated.
